TSE Introduces the Electric Power Rodder S660E

The First Battery Electric Powered Rodder

February 2022 – TSE International is an industry leader known for designing and manufacturing superior quality cable pulling and tensioning equipment for the utility industry.  OK Champion Power Rodders for the sewer, electric, and telecommunications industries are expertly manufactured by TSE.  TSE’s proven engineering expertise as the innovator in electric driven utility equipment has led to the development of the first electric Sewer/Duct Rodder.

TSE began manufacturing the OK Champion S660E Battery Electric driven Power Rodder.  The quiet, emission-free power means the S660E can be used in peaceful neighborhoods without disturbing the residents or the busiest of streets without adding to the noise and pollution.

In addition, operators can safely work and communicate without shouting over the roar of a diesel engine or smelling the fumes.

The proven S660 Drive Head provides reliable performance and productivity equal to the OK Champion hydraulic driven units that have been the standard in the industry for over 50 years. The S660E ups the ante with state-of-the-art electronic controls which improve operator comfort and provide advanced diagnostics.  TSE has proven this technology with our GREENMACHINES® which are revolutionizing the utility industry.

Performance Features

TSE International’s OK Champion Model S660E is an electrically driven continuous power rodder designed for heavy-duty rodding of telephone and power conduit, sanitary and storm sewer lines.

Capitalizing on the proven design of the S660 drive head, the rodder is driven by battery powered electric motors. Noise and emissions are non-existent and maintenance expenditures are significantly reduced as the rodder no longer requires an engine or PTO to drive it.

The rodder is capable of pushing continuous rod up to 1000’ without spinning and in extreme circumstances where plugging or misalignment of the duct or sewer has occurred, the rod can be rotated to a maximum distance of 1500’. Operator controls include forward and reverse action, clockwise and counterclockwise rotation, lateral movement and braking action with a LCD screen to display critical functions.

STANDARD FEATURES:

Self-contained battery driven power source
OK Champion S660 Drive Head Skid mounted for customer installation
• Eight hour battery capacity

DRIVE SYSTEM:

Direct rod head drive with no chains or other mechanical power transmission devices Electric/hydraulic drive head with variable speed 35 hp electric motor

Rod drive head includes three pairs of drive rollers directly driven through pinion gears of two hydraulic motors with three other drive rolls mounted on stationary shafts and three opposing drive rollers mounted on adjustable shafts for wear compensation

Clamping force on the rod through the drive rolls is applied hydraulically with pressure proportional to the pulling or pushing force to eliminate excess wear in light rodding conditions, allowing maximum torque during heavy load conditions

Drive rolls rotate on radial thrust bearings and can be replaced without removing the drive head

Two speed drive motors are plumbed directly from a hydraulic swivel barrel with stainless steel tube type fittings and without the use of black pipe or flexible hoses

Rodder Attachments

Besides working better to clear clogs in uphill sewers, clearing roots and really tough obstructions, rodders are faster to set up on site than a vacuum truck.

The original application for OK Champion’s sewer rodders was for sewer maintenance and cleaning. But did you know about the other attachments that can tackle various troublesome sewer maintenance challenges? These attachments are powered by either diesel or battery electric sewer rodder fuel options.

One of the biggest frustrations in sewer maintenance is dealing with invasive tree roots. They cause significant blockages, damage pipes causing them to crack or collapse, are difficult to access, and impede the flow of wastewater.

TSE offers a variety of sewer rodder attachments to assist with your sewer maintenance tasks.

For clearing away stubborn tree roots:

Root Saws: Root saws are available in a variety of configurations and diameters from 4” to 18”. These saws can be used in both directions but work best when pulling back slowly with high rotation speed.

For clearing away clogged debris:

Corkscrews: Square bar heavy-duty corkscrew cleaners are available in diameters from 2” to 10”. They are used for removing blockages and heavy root accumulations. A 3/8” connecting rod is used to protect the continuous rod from twisting damage.

Spring Blade Cutters: Spring blade cutters are designed to flex tightly against the inside walls of the pipe to clean debris accumulations, mineral deposits, and fine roots, enhancing the flow capacity of the pipe. For optimum efficiency, spring blades should be used while pulling the rod back slowly and rotating at a fast rate.
